Tips for Packing to Explore the World

Here are items we consider essential for exploring and meeting the world head-on! They are a bit different but we promise they will serve you well! And they won’t take up much room in your suitcase.

A PAIR OF BINOCULARS AND A MAGNIFYING GLASS

for seeing far away and close up.  The world definitely deserves a look-see in both directions. There is no telling what discoveries you’ll make once you get the hang of using these tools.

MAPS OF THE LOCAL AREA

(real maps, not a cell phone map or a GPS map!) so you will know where you are in the world, really know where you are in the world.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOUR

favorite items at home, family members involved in music, dance, sports, gardening, biking, etc., family pets, recipe for a family-favorite dish, sleeping pillow. Why, you ask?? You’re going to be making new friends along the journey and they will want to learn about you and your culture as much as you want to learn about theirs!

A CAMERA

for taking photos of your new friends and their --- favorite items at home, music, dance, sports, gardening, biking, etc., family pets, recipe for a family-favorite dish, sleeping pillow.

A SKETCH PAD

for communicating without words and for creating quick memories of your exploring.

To us exploring is all about making relationships with new people and places and seeing the similarities and differences between or among you. And it’s about piquing curiosity in order to learn from these similarities and differences.
